“The art of minimalism” is about paying attention to details, and using those subtle nuances to communicate. Going through the book, I could easily relate how the process of creating minimalistic design and the process of creating a good joke are similar.
A comedian brings out aspects through word plays from existing information that is funny and can create a good laugh. Every comedian has a process to come up with great jokes, similarly, every visual designer also needs a process to create great art.
And in Think Like a Minimalist, Chirag and Sahil have shared just that. In this book, they share their accumulated knowledge of creating great visual designs in a crisp manner in their organisation.
4 Steps of creating a minimalist design
The art of minimalist design is based on 4 simple steps:
-
Defining the problem and creating a detailed brief on the basis of the problem identified
-
Building a mind map
-
Creating visual representations of the mind map
-
Applying the tools of minimalism, which includes perception shift, negative space and typography, among others.
In today’s content-driven world, these tools and techniques are essential for visual designers to create great artwork.
After reading this book, I feel my attention to detail has improved, both in design and in my daily life.
And those unseen details have the power to create impactful narratives.
This is an excellent book for all designers and artists alike. Much recommended.
